We went here for our first wedding anniversary. Such a fun environment. I can feel the France/NYC vibe for sure! Server was awesome and they kept clearing the table immediately when needed. Food was decadent. Gnocchi and scallops *chefs kiss*

Le Fou Frog is so special! We went for my cousins birthday - and it has the best atmosphere. Our waiter was so friendly, and took his time explaining each special to us. The escargot is amazing, & the braised short ribs were delicious. They even had a someone serenade us which was a special touch.

We celebrated our first wedding anniversary at Le Fou Frog and from beginning to end our experience was absolutely fantastic. Our waitress was incredibly generous and knowledgeable about all of the offerings on both the main dinner menu and their extensive special menu. We loved everything we got including the escargot, the baked brie en croute, and the Filet Le Fou. The highlight of our dinner was the branzino fish over risotto with lump crab meat, which was nothing short of extraordinary. We capped dinner off with two desserts, one of which was their crème brûlée... my wife and I had never had any other as good (and we've had many...). This happened to be our first visit, and I can guarantee it won't be our last. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

TL;DR - I would probably give FF 4.5 stars, due to a few small quibbles that kept it from true 5 star status, but what a terrific special occasion or date night restaurant! It was my boyfriend's birthday so I wanted to do something special. I got us reservations for a Thursday night at 6 PM. Ultimately we could easily have gone without one but I had reservations at a fancy cocktail spot after so wanted to make sure we had plenty of time here. Note: it got much busier around 7. We were seated right away in one of their adorable (and romantic!) booths. It is a pretty small restaurant but it does have an extremely French vibe and the service reflects that as well. It took a few minutes for our waitress to come over (I was a little annoyed at first because I hadn't eaten much that day to ensure I had an appetite but a non-hangry individual would not have complained). Anyway, she came over and asked about drinks. BF didn't get anything (he wanted to pace himself on a work night) and I got the Peach Refresher, as the DD. It was basically an elevated Shirley temple and I enjoyed it. After that, our waitress came over with the chalkboard of specials and ran through at least 20 dishes, describing each one. I thought the published menu seemed short - it was. Tons of specials on site. It was extremely impressive, though I could have done without the 10 min run-through. It definitely added to the experience, but again I was SO hungry that I felt a little impatient. But again, this was very French style service and it's leisurely but attentive. Not suited for the speedy American expectation! But fortunately once we put in our order, the pace picked up. On to the food! We ultimately ordered Brie en croute appetizer, Branzino special for me, quail from the permanent menu for him, and a lemon tart for dessert. Once our order was in, mercifully, they brought out bread and butter (extremely tasty), and an amuse bouche of cucumber and radish topped with an herb cream cheese and shrimp. Definitely got my appetite piqued. The Brie en croute came out maybe 5 minutes later. It was yummy, with some candied pecans and a really nice salad on the plate. As we were finishing up with the app, our entrees came out (really happy with the pacing at this point). Both of us were really happy. I could have done with skin off with the Branzino but the Branzino itself, risotto and veggies were all delicious, and there was an extremely yummy sauce on top. Though I do wonder if I would have preferred the gambas (shrimp) special. The Branzino special was just the right amount of food for me. Left just enough room for dessert. My boyfriend loved the quail (it came with 2!) and he ultimately took half of it home. While I was in the ladies', BF put in a dessert order (bday boy's choice). He ended up ordering a delicious lemon tart. Flavor was amazing though the meringue was a little grainy. The waitress brought the check on her next stop by, along with 2 homemade truffles, which was perfect since I was eyeing the clock for our next reservation. It ultimately ended up being much cheaper than I expected so happy about that! One other item that wasn't a huge deal but an odd irritant is the lights kept flickering brighter and darker through the whole meal - something was going on with the dimmer switch. That definitely took away from the 5 star rating as well. But still a highly rated experience and a restaurant I'll definitely recommend to others!

A unique dinning experience. We had a cute little booth. The servers were helpful and knowledgeable about the food. I was wanting something adventurous and different for my birthday. I got scallops and my husband got quail. They have a year round menu then they will bring a chalkboard with seasonal options. We had a great experience! I have a more basic pallet and I still found several options I would have been happy with! We saw several people enjoying mussels and snails. That's not my cup of tea, but there are so many more options so don't let that hold you back!

Le Fou Frog is a unique dining experience for KC. It's a bit off the beaten path, romantic, charming, and just oozes with ambiance. I honestly can't believe it took me so long to make it here but I'm glad I did. We visited for my birthday in late December and I made a reservation well in advance, as for most good places around town the week between Christmas and New Years can be busy for family outings and restaurants fill up fast. This was the case for Le Fou Frog as it was packed when we arrived but they had our table ready. As we walked into the small space, it was like a transformation into a totally different world. The lighting was dim, with a bit of a red hue to it, and we were seated in a booth, which I really appreciated as it had curtains on the side and just felt a bit extra intimate. I ordered a French 75, ordered some mussels for the table, and took in the menu, settling on pork medallions, while my husband selected their special for the night. I will say a lot of folks talk about how they feel transported to France or Europe while they are here and I do get that vibe, having studied abroad in France many years ago. I don't think it's a 100% replica, but it does have that energy which feels special when you are so far away from a charming European bistro. The food I found to be above average though, not as good as some other five star places in town. I think it's worth it though for the overall experience - could the food be a bit better? I think so, but it's definitely delicious and well worth the visit. I think the mussels were my favorite part. I could easily see us coming next time, splitting a few appetizers, an entree, and a dessert, and some cocktails. It's a near perfect spot on a cold KC winter night and I'd encourage anyone to stop in and give them a try.

A fancy dinner for a surprise date to the Ballet. Reason # 223448 why I love my husband. I have been raving about this restaurant for years to him. "One day I will take you there. The food is fabulous". He decided he'd make my statement come true. And what do you know, it's was FABULOUS! Each course was delivered with beauty and pizazz. The type of melt in your mouth flavors you understand you will not be able to replicate at home. The service was attentive, informative and polite. The restaurant ambience is perfect for its eclectic French decor making you feel immediately special and warm. This has got to be one of my top favorite places in Kansas City and of all time!

Perfection. The inside of the restaurant is perfectly romantic. Red lighting, velvet curtains on each booth. The patio is like everyone's favorite grandma's porch with eclectic decor, chandeliers, and a tiny fountain. The staff are all smoking out back. It's very French. They have a menu, but honestly it's kind of pointless to look at it when you sit down because the server will bring out s chalkboard with a list of delicious specials a mile long. It took us so long to decide on what to eat because everything sounded divine. The servers are so attentive, informative, and passionate. I've heard it's not a trip to Le Fou Frog without the escargot and an order of fries. I'm still thinking about the escargot and soaking up the butter sauce with warm bread. The scallops were huge and tender. The osso buco was falling off the bone. Absolutely delicious from start to finish. We left feeling stuffed and satisfied. The meal will be expensive but worth it! I promise. Le Fou Frog is in a quieter part of Rivermarket, so finding parking shouldn't be too bad, but leave early just in case. I also recommend a reservation - I went on a random Wednesday night, and it was busy! Can't wait to come back for many a special occasion!

Enchanting, exquisite, romantic, classic. All the superlatives apply. Probably the best meal of any cuisine I have ever enjoyed in the greater Kansas City area in my 34 years of residency. How could it have taken this long to find this little gem nestled away just a few blocks east of the City Market area? We thoroughly enjoyed every facet of our evening from the friendly and unpretentious service to the perfectly prepared French classics we enjoyed. Incredible Foie Gras Frais on toast points with a delectable multi-ingredient sauce. A must have Dover Sole that is deboned tableside. And my entree the Cassoulet Royale which will feed me for another couple of nights! A big selection of great champagnes at all price points and nice desserts. Who could ask for more

Stopped into Le Fou Frog for the first time ever to celebrate an anniversary. It was a bit of a mixed bag. The decor was quirky and cute, but being a small space it felt like we were packed on top of the people around us. They brought us an amuse-bouche of hummus and bread that was incredible. We ordered the steak tartare special and it was very disappointing. Under-seasoned and no acid to it. But then we had the warm goat cheese and fig salad and it was unbelievably good. For our main, we both ordered the lamb special and subbed in mashed potatoes instead of the ratatouille which was an $8 up charge (the waitress explained that, so no biggie). The lamb was seasoned well and was pretty good, but it was slightly underdone and the fat hadn't been completely rendered. The mashed potatoes, though? We would have paid double to swap them in- they were incredible. In summary, the things that were done well were on another level, but it was hit-or-miss overall. We will definitely be back, though, even if only for the salad and mashed potatoes!
